Mr Children en ending de Bakemono no Ko ! (Fr/Eng)

C'est une grosse étape de franchie dans la carrière de Hosoda Mamoru (細田 守), le réalisateur de la Traversée du temps, Summer wars et Les Enfants-Loups ! En effet pour son nouveau long métrage animé, Bakemono no Ko (littéralement "l'enfant du monstre"), ou The Boy and the Beast à l'international, il s'est offert rien moins qu'un titre d'un des groupes pop-rock les plus connus au Japon (quasiment l'équivalent de U2) : Starting over de Mr Children.

Ce titre n'a pas de clip mais vous pourrez en entendre un extrait dans le trailer du film ci-dessous. Il est présent sur leur dernier album en date, "Reflection" (version "Drip", c-a-d CD simple ou CD+DVD, et version "Naked", c-a-d CD+DVD+USB avec une playlist étendue), dont vous pouvez retrouver le trailer ci-dessous :

This is a big step ahead in the career of Hosoda Mamoru (細田 守), the director of The girl who leapt through time, Summer wars et Wolf children ! Indeed for his new animation movie, Bakemono no Ko (litterally "monster's child"), or The Boy and the Beast abroad, he got nothing less than a song from one of the most famous pop-rock band in Japan (quite the equivalent of U2) : Starting over of Mr Children.

This song as no clip but you can hear an excerpt in the movie trailer hereunder. It is released on their last to date album, "Reflection" (version "Drip", to say CD only or CD+DVD, and version "Naked", c-a-d CD+DVD+USB with an extended playlist), the trailer of which can be seen hereunder:

J'apprécie beaucoup l'œuvre de Hosoda en général. La réalisation est très soignée, en particulier le mélange subtile entre le quotidien et le fantastique. Dans le présent film, on retrouve la thématique de la famille et de l'éducation des enfants des Enfants-Loups, avec un peu le même enrobage fantastique faisant appel à des animaux anthropomorphes. Pour autant Bakemono no Ko s'en démarque clairement par le scénario, plus orienté action, et le caractère des personnages principaux, plus "entiers" au premier abord.

L'histoire couvre une dizaine d'années, donc contient quelques ellipses et peu paraître parfois survolée, d'autant que le monde des Bêtes semble particulièrement profond (alors que comme les Enfants-Loups, il s'agit d'une histoire originale). D'un point de vue technique, c'est pour moi le plus abouti, tant au niveau des scènes d'action que de la gestion des foules et des effets spéciaux. Un résultat à souligner quand on sait la précarité financière de son statut de débutant freelance (c'est seulement son 2e film avec son propre studio "Chizu"), statut que ce dessin-animé devrait définitivement enterrer.

Il sortira a priori en janvier 2016 en France ; on saura alors si l'ending de Mr Children aura été conservé...

I really appreciate the work of Hosoda in general. The realisation is very careful, in particular the subtle mix of daily life and fantastic. In this movie, we find again the themas of family and child education, like in Wolf Children, with quite the same kind of fantastic background using  anthropomorphic animals. However Bakemono no Ko differs clearly regarding the scenario, more action-oriented and the psychology of the main characters, more "rough" at first sight.

The story covers around ten years, so that it contains some ellipses and may appear sometimes skimed, all the more since the Beast world looks particularly deep (whereas, like Wolf Children, it's an original story). On the technical point of vue, it is according to me, his most  achieved movie, regarding action scenes as well as crowd management and special effects. An achievment to underline when you know his unsafe financial situation as freelance beginner (it is only his 2nd movie with his own studio "Chizu"), a beginner statut that this anime should definitively get ride of.

It will be released a priori in January 2016 in France ; we will then know if the ending by Mr Children will be still there...
