Comme presque chaque année depuis 1951, ce 31 décembre 2015, la chaîne nationale NHK diffusait sa célèbre émission musicale du Réveillon, le Kôhaku uta gassen, littéralement "la bataille de chansons des Rouges et Blancs". En fait de bataille entre les Rouges (voix féminines) et les Blancs (voix masculines), il s'agit surtout de promouvoir la musique japonaise, et de récompenser ses plus gros vendeurs de l'année écoulée (avec les aléas des disponibilités des artistes, mais aussi certains choix plus éditoriaux). Et contrairement à ce qu'on attendrait en Occident, l'émission ne fait pas de (pseudo) compte à rebours pour minuit, puisqu'elle s'arrête à 23h45, cédant la place à un direct, généralement depuis un temple ou un sanctuaire où les Japonais font la queue pour leur traditionnel vœux de bonne année.
Voici donc ce que nous a réservé ce 66e Kôhaku, placé sous le signe des 70 ans de la fin de la 2nde guerre mondiale, co-animé par les "capitaines d'équipe": l'actrice et mannequin Ayase Haruka (綾瀬はるか), née à Hiroshima (équipe rouge), et Inohara Yoshihiko (井ノ原快彦), membre du groupe V6 (équipe blanche), et présidé par Kuroyanagi Tetsuko (黒柳徹子), née en 1933, actrice devenue d'abord célèbre au Japon pour son talk-show sérieux qui fêtait ses 40 ans, puis au niveau international grâce à son livre sur son enfance, entre éducation atypique et guerre, Totto-chan, et en devenant la première Asiatique à être nommée Ambassadrice de l'UNESCO.
As nearly each year since 1951, this December 31st 2015, the national channel NHK broadcast its famous musical for New Year's Eve, the Kouhaku uta gassen, litterally "the song battle between Reds and Whites". Instead of a battle between Reds (female vocals) and the Whites (male vocals), it rather consists in a promotion of Japanese music and in an award for its best sellers during the current year (with the aleas of artists disponibility, but also some more editorial choices). And contrary to what we may expect in West, the broadcast does not make some (pseudo) countdown at midnight, as it stops around 11:45 PM, leaving the place to a live, generally from temple or sanctuary where Japanese wait to make their traditional New Year wish.

D'une durée de 3h30, ce Kôhaku avait pour slogan "That's Nippon ! That's Kôhaku !" 「ザッツ、日本！ザッツ、紅白！」. After a curtain rise in presence of all the participating artists, it is the white team which started the "hostilities" with the ex-Idol of the 70s from Johnny's agency, Gou Hiromi (郷ひろみ) who gets everybody dancing on its overheated version of Ni oku yon sen man no hitomi ~ Exotic Japan (２億４千万の瞳 -エキゾチック・ジャパン-, "240 millions of pupils", in reference to the 120 millions of Japanese at that time, in 1984).

On retrouve ensuite les E-girls, pendant féminin de la troupe de danse EXILE Tribe et qui regroupe les Girls Bands Dream, Flower et Happiness. Elles se lancent dans Dance Dance Dance, justement, avec une chorégraphie incluant du moonwalk.

Un autre groupe qui a explosé récemment, électro-pop-rock cette fois, leur donne le change côté voix masculine. Il s'agit de Sekai no Owari, également connu à l'international en tant que End of the World. Leur chanson est Presento (プレゼント, "cadeau"), écrite et composée avec des lycéens vainqueurs du 82e concours de chanson de la NHK, qui se retrouvent en chœurs sur la scène ! Elle était sur le Single double titre de SOS, générique du 1er film "live" de l'Attaque des Titans.
Another band who recently exploded, electro-pop-rock this time, challenges them on the male vocal side. It is Sekai no Owari, also internationaly known as End of the World. Their song is Presento (プレゼント, "gift"), written and composed with highschool students winners of the 82nd song contest of the NHK, who participate as chorus on the stage ! It was on the double single of SOS, tie-up of the 1st Attack on Titans "live" movie.
C'est ensuite la chanteuse d'Enka Sakamoto Fuyumi (坂本冬美) qui chante Iwaizake (祝い酒, "alcool de fête"), un titre de 1988, avec une belle collection de kimonos.

On revient progressivement du passé avec Tokunaga Hideaki (徳永 英明) célèbre pour ses reprises, qui chante justement une chanson Kayôkyoku de Nakajima Miyuki (中島みゆき), Jidai (時代, "époque"), évoquant les temps qui changent, sur fond d'images d'archives. Il est tout de même dommage de ne pas avoir pu inviter l'originale, qui compte à peine 2 apparitions alors qu'elle détient le record d'avoir placer 4 titres n°1 sur 4 décennies différentes ! Tokunaga est particulièrement apprécié pour son interprétation récente de Hana wa saku, mais comme on va le voir, cette chanson était déjà réservée...
We come back progressively from the past with Tokunaga Hideaki (徳永 英明), famous for his covers, who sings precisely a Kayôkyoku song from Nakajima Miyuki (中島みゆき), Jidai (時代, "ages"), evocation of the passing by time, with old pictures in the background. It is unfortunate not to be able to invite the original singer, who has only 2 participations whereas she has got the record of having placed 4 tunes n°1 over 4 different decades ! Tokunaga is particularly appreciated for his recent cover of Hana wa saku, but as we will see, this song was already reserved...

Oui, vous avez deviné : il s'agit un medley, assez long, de certains des plus fameux génériques d'animés japonais, interprétés tour à tour par les femmes et les hommes. Il était "co-présenté" par la kawaii Chibi Maruko-chan pour les rouges, et le yôkai prétentieux Whisper, du récent phénomène "Yôkai Watch" pour les blancs. D'autres héros ont fait un caméo dans la présentation, mais niveau génériques on a pu retrouver:

Yes, you guessed it right: it's a medley, quite long, of some of the most popular anime openings and endings, performed by the men and women each at their turn. It was "co-presented" by the kawaii Chibi Maruko-chan for the red, and the pretentious youkai Whisper, from the recent phenomena "Youkai Watch" for the whites. Other heroes made an appearence in the presentation, but regarding the tie-up, we could find:
Ce medley d'Anison débouche tout naturellement sur l'apparition pour la première (et dernière puisqu'elles ont pris leur "retraite" en avril 2016) fois du groupe d'Idols et seiyuu (doubleuses) μ's, incarnations des héroïnes de la série animée Love Live. Comme leurs équivalents 2D diffusées en simultanées sur grand écran, elles interprètent Sore wa bokura no kiseki (それは僕たちの奇跡, "Ceci est notre miracle"). This Anison medley ends naturally with the appearance for the first (and last as they retired in April 2016) time of the Idols and seiyuu (voice actresses) μ's, incarnation of the heroines of the anime series Love Live. Like their 2D equivalent broadcast simultaneously on the back screen, they perform Sore wa bokura no kiseki (それは僕たちの奇跡, "This is our miracle"). They are here thanks to their big sales in 2015.
Yamauchi Keisuke (山内惠介), jeune chanteur d'Enka, mais plus expérimenté que Miyama, illumine la scène de son sourire, sur sa chanson... Spotlight, 2e meilleur single Enka de 2015, qui lui vaut donc aussi sa première invitation.

On retrouve ensuite AAA (c-a-d "Attack All Around", prononcé "Triple A"), un groupe mixte à mi-chemin entre les Idols et les boys/girls bands qui fêtait ses 10 ans de carrière. Ils ont la particularité d'avoir participé aussi bien dans l'équipe masculine que féminine. Et c'est pour cette dernière qu'ils chantent cette fois Koi oto to Amezora (恋音と雨空, "son/mélodie d'amour et ciel de pluie"), un de leurs gros succès en karaoké.
Then we find AAA (i.e. "Attack All Around", pronounced "Triple A"), a mixt band between Idols and boys/girls bands who celebrated their 10 years of career. They have the particularity of having participated as well among the white or the red. And it is for the last team that's they perform this time Koi oto to Amezora (恋音と雨空, "sound/melody of love, rainy sky"), one of their biggest karaoke hit.

La chanteuse d'Enka Shimazu Aya (島津亜矢), qui va fêter ses 30 ans de carrière en 2016, reprend Kairan'cha yo ka (帰らんちゃよか, "(Ne t'inquiète pas,) tu n'as pas besoin de rentrer"), un titre en patois de Kumamoto d'où elle est originaire, à destination des jeunes "expatriés" sur l'île principale. Le temps que j'écrive cet article, je rappelle que c'est la ville touchée par les séismes d'avril 2016 !

Another retrospectively stricking image is the introduction of the pop-rock fusion band Gesu no Kiwami Otome (ゲスの極み乙女。) for its first appearance by a member of the Idols band SMAP. Indeed the band leader, Kawatani, had written 2 songs for these Johnny's the year before. He and the SMAP will be caught in a media nightmare no longer than 2 weeks after, for very different reasons...

Ce sont ensuite certaines Nogizaka46 qui s'invitent femmes fatales en robes chinoises rouges fendues à souhait au tour de chant de Fuji Ayako (藤あや子), qui interprète pour la 2e fois Manjushage (曼珠沙華, "Red Spider lily"). Il s'agit en effet du nom d'une belle fleur écarlate mais au bulbe vénéneux, originaire de l'Asie du sud-est...
After that, some Nogizaka46 invite themselves as "femmes fatales" in well cut red Chinese dresses during the show of Fuji Ayako (藤あや子), who performs for the 2nd time Manjushage (曼珠沙華, "Red Spider lily"). It is indeed the name of a beautiful yet with a poisonous bulb scarlet flower, originating from South-East Asia...
Et on revient aux choses sérieuses avec le grand duo pop-rock Yuzu (ゆず), qui "s'élance dans l'avenir" avec (Mirai he) Kakeru (かける), une chanson dédiée aux Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de Rio comme le souligne le film en arrière plan.
And we come back to serious things with the great pop-rock duet Yuzu (ゆず), who "run into the future" with (Mirai he) Kakeru (かける), a song dedicated to the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Rio as illustrates the movie in background.
On enchaîne avec miwa - Fighting-φ-girls, prononcé faï, utilisé pour un drama en milieu hospitalier. Les plus attentifs pouvaient noter dès le départ la présence parmi les danseuses et choristes (les mêmes que pour le clip) du comique Himura Yuki (日村勇纪) alias Banana-man, qui se glisse peu à peu jusqu'à la chanteuse !

Another retrospectively stricking image is the introduction of the pop-rock fusion band Gesu no Kiwami Otome (ゲスの極み乙女。) for its first appearance by a member of the Idols band SMAP. Indeed the band leader, Kawatani, had written 2 songs for these Johnny's the year before. He and the SMAP will be caught in a media nightmare no longer than 2 weeks after, for very different reasons...Gesu perform Watashi igai, watashi janaino (私以外私じゃないの, "no one but me can be myself"), their 2nd Major single and big success in 2015.
Ce sont ensuite certaines Nogizaka46 qui s'invitent femmes fatales en robes chinoises rouges fendues à souhait au tour de chant de Fuji Ayako (藤あや子), qui interprète pour la 2e fois Manjushage (曼珠沙華, "Red Spider lily"). Il s'agit en effet du nom d'une belle fleur écarlate mais au bulbe vénéneux, originaire de l'Asie du sud-est...After that, some Nogizaka46 invite themselves as "femmes fatales" in well cut red Chinese dresses during the show of Fuji Ayako (藤あや子), who performs for the 2nd time Manjushage (曼珠沙華, "Red Spider lily"). It is indeed the name of a beautiful yet with a poisonous bulb scarlet flower, originating from South-East Asia...
Et on revient aux choses sérieuses avec le grand duo pop-rock Yuzu (ゆず), qui "s'élance dans l'avenir" avec (Mirai he) Kakeru (かける), une chanson dédiée aux Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de Rio comme le souligne le film en arrière plan.And we come back to serious things with the great pop-rock duet Yuzu (ゆず), who "run into the future" with (Mirai he) Kakeru (かける), a song dedicated to the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Rio as illustrates the movie in background.
It continues with miwa - Fighting-φ-girls, pronounced faye, used for a drama in a hospital. The most aware ones would have noticed the presence from the beginning among the female dancers and chorists (same as in the Music Video) of the humorist Himura Yuki (日村勇纪) alias Banana-man, who slides step by step to the singer !

Elles étaient ainsi présentes sur scène pour lancer Hikawa Kiyoshi (氷川きよし), surnommé le Prince de l'Enka, qui rendait hommage (de manière un peu grandiloquente tout de même ^^) au buteur Goromaru avec sa fameuse pose et à ses co-équipiers pendant la chanson Otokobana (男花), qu'on pourrait traduire par "fleur d'homme".

Hosokawa Takashi (細川たかし) chante les "reliquats du cœur", Kokoro nokori (心のこり), avec une saynète jouée par des NMB48 et 4 stars du comique aux looks plutôt improbables !
