Le 70e Kôhaku Uta Gassen (紅白 歌合戦), l'émission du Réveillon 2019-2020
de la chaîne publique japonaise NHK promettait d'être exceptionnel, car il
devait être le premier de l'ère Reiwa, l'Empereur Naruhito ayant été
intronisé le 1er mai 2019, et devait lancer les JO de Tokyo 2020... On ne
savait pas encore que, de l'autre côté de la mer de Chine, un nouveau
coronavirus commençait à se répandre...

Nobody knew that meanwhile, on the other side of the China sea, a new coronavirus was spreading...

Le programme comportait ainsi le groupe d'enfants Foorin en version
internationale pour sa chanson olympique, et Arashi, qui avait
annoncé sa quasi-retraite pour la fin 2020, y présentait son (ex?)-futur
générique officiel pour l'émission spéciale JO de la NHK. 4 premières très
attendues : le groupe de J-Rock alternatif King Gnu, le groupe J-Pop
Official Higedan-dism, l'acteur Suda Masaki, et, dans une moindre mesure à l'époque, la chanteuse Anison LiSA pour
Demon slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba).
Toujours l'occasion de faire le point sur l'année culturelle et sportive
écoulée (notamment la coupe du monde de rugby au Japon), on peut aussi y
admirer de jolis kimonos chez les artistes traditionnels, plus discrets
dans les média le reste du temps. A compléter avec la lecture des classements
des
ventes physiques
et
numériques ou streaming de l'année écoulée, qui permettent de juger de la pertinence des invitations
(sachant que certains artistes ne sont parfois pas disponibles pour venir).
The show included for instance the children band Foorin in
an international version for their olympic song, and Arashi, who
had announced their quasi-retirement for the end of 2020, were introducing
their (ex?)-future OST for the Olympic special broadcast of the NHK. 4
debuts were highly awaited: the alternative J-Rock band King Gnu, the J-Pop band Official Higedan-dism, the actor Suda Masaki, and, with a lower fame at that time, the Anison
singer LiSA for Demon slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba).
Always an occasion to comeback on the cultural and sports events of the
year (notably the Rugby World Cup in Japan), we can also admire the
beautiful kimonos that traditional artists wear, whereas they are less
visible on TV the rest of the time. To complete with the reading of
the physical sales and digital or streaming rankings of the year, which allow to evaluate the compliance in the
invitations (keeping in mind that some artists may sometimes be to busy to
come).

This Kohaku 2019 began with a visit of the general mediator Uchimura Teruyoshi (内村 光良) and captains of the red team (female voices),
actress Ayase Haruka (綾瀬 はるか), and white team (male voices), Sakurai Sho (櫻井 翔) from Arashi (嵐), to the
brand new Olympic Stadium of Tokyo, which still awaits its opening
ceremony at the (late) time ^^' I write this article. Indeed, some pandemics occured meanwhile, anihilating the efforts made in
particular during this show to promote and launch the Tokyo Olympic Games of
2020.
Mais espérons que ce ne soit que partie remise à 2021 et remettons-nous
dans le bain avec le générique d'ouverture partant de Tokyo 1964 et montrant
différents exploits olympiques (notamment japonais, mais pas que), sur fond
de chansons des émissions spéciales de la NHK (par Yuzu, Mr Children,
Ikimonogakari, Amuro Namie).
La thématique est à nouveau
"Chantons nos rêves" (夢を歌おう).
On note la présence de la quasi-totalité de l'équipe de rugby japonaise
quart-de-finaliste pour la première fois de son histoire dans le public ; il
est un peu dommage que le capitaine emblématique Michael Leitch (un Néo-zélandais naturalisé Japonais, venu au Japon à
l'âge de 15 ans) n'ait pu être présent pour profiter de ces hommages,
mais il a bien mérité de souffler en famille (apparemment) ^^.
But let's hope this is just a delay to 2021 and let's dive again
in this mood with the opening movie showing several Olympic
exploits (Japanese ones but others too), starting from Tokyo 1964,
with NHK's special shows theme songs in backround (by Yuzu,
Mr Children, Ikimonogakari, Amuro Namie).
The theme is once again
"Let's sing our dreams" (夢を歌おう).
We can notice the presence in the public of nearly all the Japanese
rugby team, which reached the quarter final for the 1st time in
history. The only a bit unfortunate thing was the absence of the
emblematic captain Michael Leitch (from New-Zealand who became Japanese after
coming here at 15), but a well deserved a family break (as it
seems)^^.
Bon nombre d'artistes sont réunis sur la scène en lever de rideau, mais on
commence avec Foorin pour sa 1ere participation officielle (le groupe
d'enfants co-produit par le discret mais génial compositeur-interprète
Yonetsu Kenshi était déjà en promo l'année passée), qui lance
l'émission avec Paprika, d'abord en version classique, puis en version internationale (JO obligent)
avec la "Team E" composée d'enfants anglophones.
A lot of artists gathered on the stage at the opening, but we start
with Foorin for their 1st official participation (the
children band, co-produced by the discreet but great singer-songwriter
Yonetsu Kenshi, was already here on promotion the previous year), who
launch the show with Paprika, firstly in classical version, then in international version (due to
Olympics) with the "Team E" composed of English-speaking children.

Johnny's Gô Hiromi (郷ひろみ, 32 participations) et son
2 oku 4 senman no hitomi~exotic "Go! Go!" Japan (2億4千万の瞳 -エキゾチック “GO！GO！” ジャパン-) partant encore une fois du hall de la salle de concert, entouré de
danseurs déguisés en sportifs.
They are opposed to the immovable Johnny's Gô Hiromi (郷ひろみ, 32 participations) and his 2 oku 4 senman no hitomi~exotic "Go! Go!" Japan (2億4千万の瞳 -エキゾチック “GO！GO！” ジャパン-) coming from the hall entrance once again, surrounded by dancers dressed
as athletes.

humoriste, qui s'est marié cette année-là, avant de rejoindre la scène sous un
déluge (virtuel) de feux d'artifices.

The Generations band from EXILE TRIBE is "finally" granted too a participation, with EXPerience Greatness, while displaying in the background a video about Shibuno Hinako, winner
of the British Open 2019.
Duel of dances with the debut of the new
Idols band in the "Sakamichi" 46
series, Hinatazaka46 (日向坂４６) who sing Kyun (キュン). They met a nice success with several of their 1st singles placed in the
charts. They are opposed to the "old", yet as much idolized by the grandmas
fans of kayokyoku,
Junretsu (純烈, 2) who ally with the dance troop DA PUMP on
Junretsu no happy birthday (純烈のハッピーバースデー). Their 2nd participation wasn't an evidence, following the scandal raised
by the revelation of domestic violence by one member, quickly excluded, at
the beginning of the year.
The humorist Okamura Takashi comes back this year too with, alas, the
unbearable mascot Chiko-chan for a short sketch... Then, out of the
competition, the Johnny's Jr. (with the participation
of SixTONES and Snow Man just debuted)
sing Let's go to 2020 Tokyo.

film Aladdin). Il est remarquable de noter qu'on a des chansons
entières et sans fioritures, évitant la surcharge de l'année précédente.
Out of competition: a sequence special Disney with the young Nakamoto Mizuki (中元みずき, Into the unknown of Frozen 2) ; Diamond Yukai (ダイアモンド✡ユカイ), rocker and actor you may have seen in Lost in
translation for example, accompanied by 2 Johnny's (Kimi wa tomodachi - You've got a friend in me, from Toy Story 4); Nakamura Tomoya (中村 倫也) and Kinoshita Haruka (木下 晴香) in duo for Whole new world from the Aladdin
live movie). It is remarkable that we have full songs without flourishes, avoiding the overload of the previous edition.
The NHK super-manager (played by Uchimura) strikes again this year by
asking another performance that could butt with that. Solution of Ohno
Satoshi from Arashi, adopted despite the protestations of the think tank
("not right after Disney, for goodness sake..." ^^)
: Oshiri-tantei, the... butt-headed detective, very popular
among kids, it seems, and his very imaged song: Pupu! to fumu! to kaiketsu dance (ププッとフムッとかいけつダンス) to which the Generations among other joined...
Kis-My-Ft2 (1st appearance in 9 years of career...)
sing Everybody go after a short report on the training of an Olympic skater, Yosozumi
Sakura (四十住 さくら). Themselves have inherited the roller stage perfomances from the
Johnny's of Hikaru Genji.
Tendo Yoshimi (天童よしみ, 24) sings Osaka koi shigure (大阪恋時雨), her new single between enka and kayoukyoku (cover of a J-Pop ballad by a then indie singer-songwriter),
accompanied by the doll-face mannequin Matt at piano.
AKB48 (12) self-cover (again) Koi suru fortune cookie in international version (恋するフォーチュンクッキー～紅白世界選抜SP～) with this time the presence of 8 foreign leaders from the AKB48 Teams SH (Shanghai)
and TP (Taiwan), JKT48 (Jakarta), BNK48 (Bangkok)
and CGM48 (Chiang Mai) for
Thailand, MNL48 (Manilla), SGO48 (Ho Chi Minh-City / Saigon), and DEL48 (Delhi). Some passages are sung in their
respective languages, with in background some videos of fans dancing on the
famous choreography.

Miura Daichi (三浦大知, 3), the RnB singer-dancer, is invited
for the 3rd time in a row, as he sang in February for the 30 years of reign
of the previous emperor, retired in April 2019. He performs Blizzard, with real pyrotechnics and a reworked chore for the occasion.
He is opposed to the one who is still just a curiosity for the general
public, LiSA, the Anison rocker who comes for the 1st time thanks to the success of Kimetsu no Yaiba
(Demon Slayer) of which she sings the opening - Gurenka (紅蓮華). Note that she even participates to the ending in duo with Fiction
Junction. If the singer is no longer a beginner and has already an excellent
reputation among anime and music fans, it is rare to see anison
artists invited at Kouhaku. No doubt her performance participated in the
runaway success of this manga and anime which flooded all Japan (and beyond)
in 2020 to the point of competing with Miyazaki Hayao in theaters!

s'incruste pour lire aussi un long discours de félicitations au... Kôhaku pour
ses 70 ans.
While the show recalls the annoucement of the new era in May 2019, Reiwa,
founded with the reign of the new emperor Naruhito, the humorist, actor and
director Beat Takeshi (ビートたけし) aka Kitano Takeshi (北野 武: Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence/Furyo, Zatoichi, Hana-Bi...) steps in to
read too a long speech of congratulations to the... Kouhaku for its 70
years.
Sakamoto Fuyumi (坂本冬美, 31) goes on purposedly with Iwaizake (祝い酒 ～祝！令和バージョン～), feast's sake, in front of a nice traditional music ensemble, whose taiko are played by
3 members of King & Prince !

lui répond, avec Hakujitsu (白日), son 1er single, générique d'un drama, déjà vu et streamé plus de 100
millions de fois. Outre une musique travaillée et diverse, son chanteur
principal possède une voix capable de monter très haut.
In a completly different genre, the alternative J-Rock band King Gnu (1e) replies with Hakujitsu (白日), their 1st single, theme song of a drama, already seen and streamed over 100
millions times. In addition to a refined and diversified music, their main
singer owns a voice able to reach very high notes.

C'est déjà l'annonce des résultats intermédiaires : pas de miracle
Hinatazaka46 ou LiSA, les blancs mènent 114499 à 86837, alors que Itsuki Hiroshi (五木ひろし) n'est même pas encore passé. Et la première mi-temps
se conclut enfin, comme l'année précédente, avec celui-ci sur Viva la Vida !~ Ikiterutte ii ne (生きてるっていいね!), accompagné de nombreux artistes sur scène, et
Takeda Shinji au saxo (acteur, il a aussi une certaine carrière musicale et a
justement signé le générique d'un journal de la NHK) et... à la muscu (il apparait dans le Gym Tonic local),
plus une incruste de Chiko-chan à la batterie.
It's already the announcement of the the half-time results: no miracle
from the red newcomers Hinatazaka46 or LiSA, whites lead by 114499 to 86837,
while Itsuki Hiroshi (五木ひろし) still didn't make his
performance. And thus the first half ends finally, with him
singing Viva la Vida !~ Ikiterutte ii ne (生きてるっていいね!), just like the previous year, accompanied by
several artists on stage, and by Takeda Shinji performing saxophone (actor,
he has too a quite important musical career and has precisely made the theme
of a NHK's news) and.. fitness exercises (as he appears in the NHK gym show), plus an appearance of
Chiko-chan as drummer.
Pause, avec une news digne de la BD XIII : Carlos Ghosn,
ex-PDG de Renault-Nissan et mis en examen pour fraude fiscale révèle... sa
fuite au Liban (planqué dans une valise) !
